Ryobi Recalls Over 200,000 Battery-Powered Lawn Mowers Due to Fire Hazard

Ryobi, a popular power tool manufacturer, has announced a major recall affecting more than 200,000 of its battery-powered lawn mowers. The recall comes in response to a potential fire hazard that has already resulted in multiple incidents and injuries.

Recall Details

The recall specifically targets RYOBI 40-volt brushless 21" cordless walk-behind mowers sold between February 2021 and January 2025. These mowers, priced between $500 and $700, were primarily available at Home Depot stores across the United States and Canada.

The issue stems from a push-on connector inside the powerhead that can overheat during use, posing a significant fire risk. As of the recall date, there have been 97 reported cases of overheating, including five incidents involving fires and two cases of minor burn injuries.

Owners of the affected mowers are urged to take immediate action:

  1. Stop using the recalled mower immediately.
  2. Contact TTI Outdoor Power Equipment Inc. (TTIOPE) at 800-597-9624 for instructions on disabling the mower.
  3. Receive a free replacement 21" walk-behind mower.

This recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada. Ryobi emphasizes the importance of prompt action by consumers to ensure their safety and receive the free replacement.
